# OpenAI

> Connect your OpenAI API key in Synthflow so supported assistants run with your own credentials.

Use the [OpenAI](https://platform.openai.com/) integration when you want Synthflow to run supported models with your own API key instead of a shared key. After you connect, Synthflow uses your credentials for model access configured in your workspace.

## Before you connect

Make sure you have:

* An active OpenAI platform account.
* An API key from the [OpenAI API keys dashboard](https://platform.openai.com/api-keys).

Generate the key in your OpenAI account settings, then copy it before you return to Synthflow. OpenAI shows the full key value only once.

## Connect OpenAI in Synthflow

Go to **Admin** → **Workspace Settings** → **Integrations**.

Find **OpenAI** and select it.

Enter your **API Key**, then click **Connect** to save the integration.

## How this integration works

After connection, Synthflow routes supported LLM traffic through your OpenAI account using your API key. Billing and usage limits follow the terms of your OpenAI account.
