Data Region
When you create a workspace, you select a cluster that determines where your data is stored and processed. This choice impacts data residency, compliance, and latency for your organization. Review your requirements before you confirm the workspace setup, because the cluster you pick at creation time cannot be changed later.
To confirm which cluster an existing workspace uses, open Admin → Workspace Settings → Preferences → Customer Region in the Synthflow portal. When you call the Platform API, use the base URL that matches that cluster.
Cluster selection is permanent. The cluster you choose when creating a workspace cannot be changed afterward. Make sure you select the correct cluster upfront.
Synthflow operates three clusters. The table below shows where each one stores workspace data and where live processing runs.
Global is the default for workspaces created before dedicated US and EU clusters were available. Data for Global workspaces is stored in the EU, but live call processing can run in the United States or the European Union depending on traffic and routing. If you need storage and compute to stay in one region, choose US or EU when you create a new workspace.
If you bring your own Twilio integration into an EU workspace, only some Twilio API requests run in Twilio’s Ireland region. See Twilio integration > Regional API routing for the full breakdown.
FAQ
Can I change my cluster after creating a workspace?
No. Cluster selection is permanent. If you need a different region, create a new workspace in the correct cluster and migrate your agents and configuration.
What is the difference between Global, US, and EU?
Global stores data in the EU but can process live calls in the US or EU. US and EU keep both storage and compute in a single region. New workspaces should use US or EU unless you are continuing on the legacy Global architecture.
How do I find my workspace's cluster?
Open Admin → Workspace Settings → Preferences → Customer Region in the Synthflow portal. The value shown there is the cluster your workspace belongs to.
Which API base URL should I use?
Use the base URL that matches your workspace cluster. See Introduction > Base URLs for the Global, US, and EU endpoints.
Are all features available in every cluster?
Most platform features work in all clusters. WhatsApp and SMS chat agents are currently available in US workspaces only. API and widget-based chat agents are available in all regions.
Does bringing my own Twilio account affect data residency?
Yes, for EU workspaces. When you connect your own Twilio account, not every Twilio API request runs in the EU. See Twilio integration > Regional API routing for which requests stay in Ireland and which fall back to the US.
